Founded in 1964, the Department of Chemistry of the University of Illinois Chicago is an internationally recognized center of excellence both in research and teaching. Carl Moore Research Chair, Dr. Graham Moran was recently honored as a 2020 Sujack Master Researcher. Dr. Moran joined the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department in 2018 and has established a vibrant research program based in the study of enzyme reaction chemistry.

Schmitt fellow and 5th year PhD student, Marie Turano, is a finalist for a prominent international graduate student award.


Dr. Carly Hanson recently graduated, and is now a postdoc at The University of Ottawa. Here's a bit on her accomplishments in Jim Devery's group here at Loyola.

Joerg Zimmermann and Pengfei Li are starting at Loyola in fall 2020. The department is very happy to have them onboard, and we are looking forward to hearing more about their accomplishments in the years to follow!

Professor Graham Moran recently joined Loyola Chemistry and Biochemistry, as the first Carl Moore Research Chair in Chemistry & Biochemistry.

Daniel Catlin, a fifth year PhD student in Professor Dali Liu’s research group, received an Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation Fellowship for 2018-19. Funding from the Fellowship provides Catlin vital support to conduct research while preparing him to be a leader in his field.

In 1968, the American Chemical Society (ACS) developed Project SEED, a program geared toward economically disadvantaged, high-achieving high school students by providing them with an opportunity to work directly with professional chemists and university professors for a summer.
